Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established…Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted…For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. (Romans 13: 1, 3)
Dearest Lord Jesus,
We thank you today and everyday for the men and women who serve to protect our country and our freedom, in the armed forces. We know that in the end “freedom” is not free, but comes at the cost of the lives of many brave men and women. Give them strength and courage and take away their fears. Be with the families of those lost in battle. Comfort them with your presence. Remind them, and all of us that true freedom comes only through faith in you, and by the sacrifice you made on the cross for all people. Teach us also to respect and honor our president and all government officials. You clearly state in your Word that they have been set in place for our good and by your authority. When their decisions and beliefs seem to go against your will, give us the patience to wait on your timing. Help us to remember that you are in control and will ultimately use them to fulfill your purpose for the good of all.
In Your holy name we pray – Amen.
